Days before the start of the 2022-23 season, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum talked about his emotional state at the NBA season promotional shoot. Tatum said that the previous season’s disappointing defeat has motivated him to give his best to earn the championship title. He further added that the loss was a learning experience for him and stated that it only ‘fueled him’.

Jayson Tatum mentions the tough way of learning a lesson

Over three months after the disheartening defeat of the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum talked about his team’s loss. The Celtics player revealed that he played in the 2022 Finals with a shoulder injury. Tatum also mentioned that it was not an excuse and took full responsibility of his performance during the game. He said that he knew there were several other players both in his team and the Warriors who were suffering from injuries as well. Talking about the aftermath of the Finals, Tatum said that while he took the loss as a lesson, it was still hard for him.

“It was just a learning experience, learning a lesson. Maybe do some things differently next time if you get to that point. Obviously, it?s tough to learn a lesson that way, but it is what it is,” said Tatum.

Furthermore, he said that the failure to win the previous season’s championship title has only served as a motivation to him.

“It just fuels you,” said Tatum, “Motivates you to get back to that point.”

Tatum was reminded of the Finals even on his vacation

After losing to the Golden State Warriors, Tatum went away on a much-needed vacation to the Cayman Islands with his family. He stated that while he was away to take his mind off from the game, there was always someone who would remind him of the defeat. Although they only meant well and wished him luck for the next season, it was still a fresh wound back then.

The Golden State Warriors had won the 2021-22 season championship title after defeating the Celtics by 103-90. The Warriors defeated the Celtics in four games out of six. Stephen Curry scored 34 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds and was named the NBA Finals MVP. Curry had averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. Jayson Tatum had led the Celtics to win by 120-108 and had scored 12 points, five rebounds, and 13 assists. However, Tatum failed to make any impact in Game 6.
