LeBron James joining Miami Heat was definitely a heated affair. Prior to ‘The Decision’, many teams in the league contacted James?from the Chicago Bulls to the Clippers.?But James ended up joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the Miami Heat.?Before he joined the Heat, Wade was already an NBA champion. He was the leader of the team until the 19x NBA All-star came into the picture.
He definitely made a lot of sacrifices to make space for LeBron. But little do we know he was making sacrifices for someone else on the team, too. In a different interview with Shannon Sharpe, Wade talked about the details of why he gave up his position to the 4x NBA champion.

Dwyane Wade reveals ‘The Biggest Hit’ he offered to take for a Miami Heat teammate
Even though Miami Heat lost to Denver Nuggets in 2023, their spirit remains intact. As the season concluded, details about Wade’s former teammate start cropping up in his interview with the Sports Illustrated. The former player retired from the NBA after going undrafted in 2002. Heat picked him, making years’ worth of contributions.?Who’s the friend in question?
Well, it’s Udonis Haslem. In his interview, the 3x NBA champion sheds light on his friend and former teammate, Udonis Haslem.?According to Wade, he’s made adjustments to ensure James’ contributions are visible. However, it’s not just LeBron, Wade made sacrifices for his friend Udonis too.

The Flash tells a story about Udonis Haslem expressing his admiration for him. He recalls a conversation with his agent in the summer of 2010. During the conversation, he discovered that things aren’t not going well for UD.
Wade quickly contacted him and learned that UD was on his way to inform the Head coach Pat Riley about leaving the Heat. Wade was disappointed and explained the matter to his teammates, Bosh and James. They all agreed that UD leaving for financial concerns didn’t feel good. Upon knowing about the finances, Wade was quick to propose the biggest sacrifice for Udonis.

The latter is like a brother to him, so he says, “Because that [Haslem] was my brother, I told Chris and Bron I would take the biggest hit. Because it didn?t matter if we won championships, it wasn?t going to feel complete without Udonis being a part of this s**t.”
Wade claims Haslem has ‘The Greatest Career’ in the Heat’s history
Throughout the interview, we see Wade emphasizing the special bond he shares with Haslem. Their relationship seems full of depth. He even goes on to say that their connection is unlike any other relationship he’s had. Wade also praises UD’s remarkable career with the Miami Heat. According to him, Udonis surpasses all expectations. And despite sharks like Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Gary Payton, and Tim Hardaway, UD has made a place for himself as the greatest career in the Heat’s history.
