Attention has been stuck on the eye-popping rivalry between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. The on-court war has been intense, physical, and entertaining for NBA fans. It is another series, a continuation of the iconic rivalry between LeBron James and Stephen Curry. But as fiery as this rivalry is on the court, there has also been some drama and noise outside the action. Following Steve Kerr’s ‘flopping’ claims for the Purple and Gold, another Warrior star decided to take a jab, this time at The King for defending his troops.

The Lakers and Warriors will face off tomorrow in Game 6 in Los Angeles. The defending champions will fight for their season while the 17-time champions will look to book a place in the WCF.

“They understand how to generate some calls. I thought they took some flops and were rewarded,” these words from the Warriors head coach sparked some major tension. Since Kerr’s words, there has been a debate in basketball media – Do the Purple and Gold resort to flopping? The reason behind it has been the obvious free throw discrepancy in this series so far.

Several of the Laker members have stood against the claims. “We don’t teach flopping,” Darvin Ham said openly in response to the scrutiny the team faced. Following their Game 5 loss, even LeBron James came to his troops’ defense.

“We don’t work on flopping,” said the 19-time All-Star. “It’s just not us. It’s never been. There’s actually never been any teams I’ve played for in my 20 years why we’ve been a flopping team.”

It seemed to be a fair response to the claims. Nevertheless, it’s fair to say one Warriors player wasn’t in agreement with the Akron Hammer. JaMychal Green went on his Instagram to publicly shame James’ admission. He added a cap on the Lakers forward’s head to insinuate he was lying.

We all know what happened the last time LeBron James was disrespected publicly, right? Dillon Brooks suffered the wrath not just of the fans, but The King as well. It might not be smart of Green to challenge James this way. But are his frustrations justified?

How great is the free throw disparity between the Lakers and the Warriors?

The Los Angeles Lakers have been the teams getting the whistles. Over the five games so far, only once have the Warriors got equal attempts at the foul line which was in the latest Game 5. In the first four games combined, the numbers are nearly overwhelming. The Lakers have had 55 more attempts than the Warriors at the free-throw line.

Hence, Green’s frustrations are well justified. But is it really that the Lakers get the calls? In hindsight, the Warriors are a team that dominantly plays on the perimeter. They have elite shooters who rely on their three-point shot-making to drown their opponents.

The Lakers couldn’t be more different. They have the physical gifts and play mostly at the rim. That is one of the reasons defenses are forced to work harder, resulting in a greater number of fouls.
