‘Agent Zero’ is now a media personality in the NBA community. He appears on a multitude of podcasts and interviews across various platforms. He is famous for making ‘hot’ takes, which have stirred controversy in the community. In his most recent interview with VladTV, which lasted for over 2 hours, he talked about a bunch of topics across the NBA.
The former All-star point guard talked about the reigning Finals MVP, Stephen Curry in a segment. He talked about his recent success and also discussed why Curry would never be mentioned in the ‘GOAT’ conversation.
Stephen Curry, the GOAT of players at 6’3” and under
According to the 6’4” veteran point guard Gilbert Arenas, Stephen Curry will always be slighted in the GOAT conversation as he doesn’t fit the typical image of what the GOAT of the NBA is like in a fan’s eyes. He believes that the GOAT conversation has always been centered around the Giants of the league; Bill Russel, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain, among others. One thing common among the above list of players is that they are all freak athletes and above 6’6” in height.
Despite Curry’s recent success, because the GOAT conversation has been around these men for so long, fans would find it difficult to place the 6’3” point guard(who can barely dunk) in the All-time GOAT ranking, Arenas believes.
He admits that the smaller guys have to do more to get the same credit. According to him, Curry is at a natural disadvantage due to his height and also the lack of athletic flair in his game. He remarked that Curry’s game is based on being a floor general and three-point shots. As a result, his game lacks the monster dunks and the freakish athletic feats of the other players that are usually included in the GOAT conversation.
Curry’s status in the All-time rankings is similar to a Boxing legend
Gilbert Arenas compares Curry’s All-time ranking status to that of the boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. According to him, Floyd isn’t mentioned that often in the GOAT conversation with the likes of Ali or Tyson because his fights aren’t that spectacular. Tyson’s fights would have the knockouts, and Ali’s fights would have his brilliant footwork. These are the things a typical fan remembers and takes into account while thinking of the GOAT.
