The 2016 NBA finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers gave the fans some of the most memorable matchups ever. LeBron James was up against Stephen Curry and he got an unlikely victory.

Despite being 3-1 down in the series, the Cavs made a phenomenal comeback with James pulling off one of the most iconic blocks ever. Talking with former NBA star JJ Reddick, Curry talked about the whole series. Describing the finals, the four-time NBA champion still seems to be disappointed about that loss. 

Stephen Curry still regrets the 2016 NBA finals loss

The Golden State Warriors of 2016 were more than legendary. With stars like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the team went 73-9 during the regular season.

A Cleveland Cavaliers team featuring LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love took on the unlikely task of beating the Warriors in the 2016 finals.

All hope seemed lost when they went 3-1 down in the series. However, James and Co. miraculously turned the series to 4-3 and clinched the 2016 NBA finals.

Talking on JJ Reddick’s podcast, Curry talks about how he still regrets the loss. Curry said, “I’ve never seen two guys play at that level for three straight games. We played well, they just played better. It was hard to watch and be at that vibe where you couldn’t do anything about it.”

He further elaborated, “The whole season was insane to think about. All the experiences we had, the fact that we have a 73 and 9 banner in our facility but no NBA finals banner, still hurts. Thats part of the journey. Everytime I see Kyrie, every time I see Bron, there’s that respect.”

Interestingly enough, this happened to be Curry’s Unanimous MVP season. The Warriors won everything possible other than the NBA title that season.

LeBron James made one of the most iconic blocks to win the 2016 NBA finals

During Game 7 of the 2016 NBA finals, Andre Iguodala went for a layup that would break the 89-89 tie and clinch the title that season. However, LeBron had other plans.

Tracking down brilliantly, he blocked Iguodala brilliantly with the whole crowd erupting. This happened to be the defining moment with Kyrie Irving having the final laugh over Curry. Irving’s jump shot ensured James win his fourth NBA title and the first with Cleveland Cavaliers.
