There have been many teams who are a part of NBA history. Dynasties, three-peats, and consecutive titles; many teams have achieved various feats over the span of the NBA’s rich history. But some teams just stand above and beyond all the others. Widely considered as two of those absolute bests are Shaquille O? Neal and Kobe Bryant?s Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors led by Stephen Curry.

Shaq and Kobe guided the Lakers to their three-peat from 2000 to 2002, while the Warriors Dynasty with the core three of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson have won four titles since 2015.?

The 2017 Warriors was arguably one of the best NBA rosters in the history of the game. They did justice to their reputation as well. However, it is tough to figure out if they would have been able to beat the destructive duo of Shaq and Kobe, especially in 2001.

For fans, an answer to that hypothetical game series might be impossible to figure out, but Stephen Curry had a very confident answer. Just like he had when asked about beating Michael Jordan’s 1996 Chicago Bulls.

Steph said, ?Between the ?96 Bulls and the hypotheticals of a 7-game series, the 2001 Lakers and that hypothetical series, or every other hypothetical series that people say we should?ve lost. ? But at the end of the day, if you could match up in some alternate universe, us versus the 2001 Lakers, obviously we feel like we can win. I don?t know who would guard Shaq but I don?t know who would guard me and Klay either. We rockin? with that. And three [pointers] is better than two.?

Shaquille O?Neal, Kobe Bryant Lakers 2001 vs Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson Warriors 2017

Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant together were absolutely brutal. Even though there were a few years of difference between the two careers, it was clear to see that Kobe was very much close to his prime, if not his absolute best. As for Shaq, his three back-to-back Finals MVPs talk for themselves.

On the other hand, the Warriors added another diamond to their already existing ring-winning squad in 2017. With the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the addition of Kevin Durant worked like a charm. After the shocking loss in the 2016 NBA Finals at the hands of LeBron James, the Warriors came back stronger than ever.

So even after keeping things in perspective, there can?t be a sure short answer to the hypothetical matchup. Shaq and Kobe were the two best players in the league at the time and were an unbreakable force. On the other hand, Steph and KD had the same reputation. Moreover, Draymond and Klay were two players who would be the first names for any other team in the league.

Having said that, both teams had their strengths which is why they were the absolute best at the time. While the Lakers completed the three-peat, the Warriors weren’t far from it either. There can be no definitive answer but only debates and arguments.?
