Stephen Curry has established himself as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and the leader of one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties. However, his immense success in the sport of basketball wasn’t an overnight phenomenon. In fact, Stephen Curry revealed in an interview a while back that a solid foundation based on faith and family and great mentors in his early life helped him to reach the pinnacle of success.

Curry has always ascribed his success to his adherence to faith and family values. The Dubs superstar details the trials and tribulations he faced in his younger years and the ways he overcame them in this interview at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

In addition, he also talks about his days at Davidson College. In fact, the four-time NBA champion explains how failure in early life prepared him to be a true champion.

Stephen Curry reveals how his college coach taught him to become a man

Stephen Curry had to endure a bunch of rejections in his early days. Because of his size and proclivity to shoot the basketball, a lot of recruits, coaches, and teams overlooked his talent. However, in hindsight, the Dubs guard wouldn’t have it any other way.

In other words, Davidson was the perfect place for Curry to blossom. And as it turns out, Bob McKillop, the then coach of the Davidson Wildcats, would serve as a great mentor for Steph in his budding years. In fact, McKillop would teach him to be a man, both on and off the court.

I got to be around one of the greatest coaches that is in college basketball in Bob McKillop,” Curry said in the interview. “[He] created that connection in terms of building what a man is supposed to be on and off the court.

I’m forever grateful for what he saw in me, what I didn’t even see it for myself,” added the two-time NBA MVP. In other words, his coach encouraged Curry to make his own path. As a result, the eight-time All-Star entered the NBA and changed the game of basketball forever.

Curry talks about his college experience

Meanwhile, Stephen Curry also talked about his college experience at Davidson outside of basketball. In fact, being only 30 minutes from home, the liberal arts college, with only 1800 students, felt pretty much like high school to him.

However, there’s no doubt that Davidson prepared Curry for his role as an all-time great. In fact, the 2022 MVP of the NBA Finals cemented his legacy after winning his fourth championship ring recently.
