NBA superstar Stephen Curry has won four NBA titles in six Finals appearances. The two Finals losses came against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors stopped the Warriors from winning three-straight titles by beating them in 2019. By doing so, the Raptors won their first-ever championship. However, the 2016 loss at the hands of the Cavs might have been one of the hardest to take. Because the Warriors were coming into the Finals after breaking the regular season win record set by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

The Warriors took a strong 3-1 lead but then things went south. To add more to Curry’s pressure, a close family member was detained. Steph’s family is a huge support system for him. They always try to be in attendance to show their support for the sharpshooter. Especially, during important games like the Finals.
During game 6 of the Finals series with the Cavs, Curry‘s father-in-law was detained by security at Quicken Loans Arena. Ayesha Curry took to Twitter and stated it was a long night for her.

Stephen Curry was unaware of the whole situation while preparing for the crucial game 6. He found out about it after the game and met with NBA officials who stated that his father-in-law was detained because he bore a resemblance to David Aminzadeh, a con artist known to fabricate credentials for major sporting events.
“They kind of profiled my father-in-law and thought he was him. They threatened to arrest him before they checked out his credentials. It’s kind of been an emotional and tough night all the way around,” Curry said. He added the incident was a “traumatic situation” for his wife.

The Warriors lost the game with a scoreline of 101-115 which took the series to a deciding game 7. LeBron James erupted for 41 points to help the Cavaliers win. Tristan Thompson racked up 16 rebounds.

The Warriors had beaten James and the Cavs in the previous finals to clinch the title. So the Cavaliers were certainly out for some vengeance. The Warriors had a legendary regular season with 73 wins breaking the earlier record of 72 wins by the Bulls. However, this brought enormous pressure on them as well. Fans and analysts started saying that the record means nothing if they don’t win the ring.

They struggled in the series against Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder as well. They went down 3-1 and then came back to win the series. Ironically, they did not know the same would happen to them in the Finals.
After giving up a 3-1 lead, the Cavaliers came back strong to win their first-ever NBA championship.
