At one time, Jordan Poole was labeled the ‘third splash brother’. His insane run during the last postseason validated each claim; he was turning into the perfect backup for Stephen Curry. However, the Golden State Warriors haven’t found the same version of Poole during the ongoing playoffs. The starlet is struggling, attracting scrutiny from the fans. There is no doubt about the talent he possesses, but doubts and questions are being raised over his potential with the defending champions. According to an NBA analyst, he feels one decision could help the 23-year-old flourish in the NBA.
Colin Cowherd, on his show, ‘The Herd’ claims it is Stephen Curry who is holding Poole back. You might wonder, how is that? Here is what Cowherd said about the same.

Much of the Dub Nation has lost hope in Jordan Poole due to his disappointing run in the playoffs so far. He is averaging just 10.5 points and 3.5 assists on a ghastly 27% shooting from three. Concerns are on the rise; Is Poole the right guy for the Warriors? Is he the one to take over Stephen Curry’s place one day? According to Cowherd, Poole needs to get out of the Warriors to be the ‘man’.
“Jordan Poole needs to be the man, not the guy subbing in for the man. He doesn’t fit. He would start and be a 25 PPG player for 90% of this league,” claims Cowherd.

It may come off as outrageous; How can Curry be the reason Poole isn’t unleashed yet? In his defense, Cowherd brought up his numbers without Stephen Curry. The Dub Nation well remembers how the starlet took control last season when The Chef was hurt. He hasn’t been any different when being the first option this season either. Poole poured in 26.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in 26 games without Curry in the lineup.

Of course, Poole gets to play at his own pace without Steph Curry. The 23-year-old can operate his own offense as opposed to a system surrounding his superstar teammate. Despite the drastic change, Poole has adapted well to the Warriors’ offense. Even as the primary scorer for the second unit, he has averaged nearly 17 points a game.
In fact, he gets to learn from Curry, arguably one of the greatest offensive players in the modern era, day in and day out. At just 23, the Warriors star has shown flashes of being the ‘next one’ after Stephen Curry. His numbers without the reigning Finals MVP might show he benefits as the first option. But it also shows how Poole has adapted well to the Bay.

It’s only in the ongoing playoffs that Poole is experiencing a slump. Every basketball player has to go through times the shots just don’t fall. But is moving on from a successful system the way to go? Let us know if you agree with Cowherd’s assessment.
