According to the police, the scammers behind the whole fiasco are two individuals who use the profile names “YK Slowazz Longlivemybrotha” and “Steph Curry.” These individuals use fake dollars and ‘play bills’ to cheat their victims. The scam goes like this; the scammers go on the Facebook marketplace under the above-mentioned profile names and shop for gaming consoles and shoes. After finding a seller, they contact them for the purchase and arrange a meeting for the exchange. During the exchange, the scammers carefully fold their ‘playbills,’ which we get in board games, under fake dollars and give them to the seller. In the illusion of a successful transaction, the seller unloads his item and walks away.
The scammers then exchange the items ‘brought’ from these sellers in pawn shops for real cash. So far, the crooks have not been caught and are running wild. The police further have advised the city’s residents to be cautious. Though one of the scammers has the profile name of ‘Steph Curry,’ the All-star point guard from the Golden State Warriors has no connection to the scam.
