The political leaders in the town of Atherton, which is believed to be the wealthiest city in the nation, recently made a huge decision that is a grave concern for?Stephen Curry?and his family. Steph and Ayesha Curry have lived with their kids in Atherton since December 2020. The couple bought a lavish $31 million worth mansion which they sold last year in September to buy a new home in Selby Lane, Atherton. On Tuesday, the political representatives of Atherton adopted a reportedly below-standard housing plan through 2031 despite criticism from the town’s people and the Curry family. Notably, Stephen Curry faced a scathing rejection after?a concerning letter from Ayesha Curry?was recently walked over by the leaders of Atherton.
With a population of merely 7,200 people, Atherton is built of single-family houses over a minimum of one-acre lots. Surprisingly, reports suggest that the ‘low-income’ earners in Atherton’s San Mateo county still have an income of over six figures. However, the new housing plan from Atherton’s city council poses a considerable threat to Curry and the residents of the town, who are not in favor of additional housing projects.

Atherton City Council was handed a January 31 deadline to adopt a new housing plan. Eventually, on Tuesday, the city council enormously voted in favor of a project that envisions the development of 348 more housing units in the next eight years.?Per a report from SF GATE, the Currys sent a letter to the council, expressing their concerns about the project. Stephen and Ayesha Curry suggested they had?“major concerns in terms of privacy and safety with three-story townhomes looming directly behind us.”
Moreover, Ayesha Curry also cited a specific reason behind their opposition to the project. Mrs. Curry wrote,?“We kindly ask that the town adopts the new housing [plan] without the inclusion of 23 Oakwood.”

David Arata, the owner of 23 Oakwood, is believed to be unwelcomed by the people of Atherton. Primarily due to his plans of making money by developing his plot. However, the Currys have claimed in the letter that Arata’s project would cause a breach of their privacy. They also requested that if the housing plan was approved, the council of Atherton must construct a fence around their property to stay isolated from their neighbors.

Unfortunately for Stephen and Ayesha Curry, the council passed the plan, leaving the Currys to deal with their housing problems involving Arata. However, Steph Curry is not alone in the fight. During Atherton’s city meeting, the people also expressed their reservations about the new housing plan adopted by the town council, which has the ‘wealthiest ZIP CODE in the United States’.
