Cherelle Griner, wife of WNBA star Brittney Griner, recently appeared at Glamour’s 2022 Women of the Year ceremony in New York. She used the platform to urge the people to send encouraging messages to Griner’s way, who has been stuck in Russia for over eight months. She was detained in Russian after vape cartridges filled with cannabis oil were found in her luggage at the Moscow Airport in February.

Recently, Cherelle Griner shared a heartening message during her speech that would have certainly impressed BG’s supporters including Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving.

The two NBA stars used the league platform to show their support for Brittney Griner’s safe return during the opening stages of the 2022-23 season. The Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry mentioned Griner in his ring ceremony speech and demanded Griner’s safe return. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving urged the Biden Administration to do their job and bring ‘sister’ Brittney Griner out of Russia.

Cherelle Griner talked about her struggles through the last eight months of living without her wife. She has done everything she can to fight for Griner’s freedom and is the biggest ray of hope for the 2014 WNBA champ.

Cherelle revealed that BG was not okay and was frustrated about not being able to do much to relieve her pain. However, Cherelle Griner believed that the love and support from people would certainly inspire Brittney Griner to keep fighting. Griner’s wife stated, “But I believe from the bottom of my heart that while I can’t bring her back, words can make a difference.”

Further, Cherelle encouraged the guest and the viewers to write a note for Griner as a way to show their support by leaving their thoughts on weareBG.org or using the hashtag #WeAreBG. Griner’s wife has left no stones unturned since the eight-time All-Star’s detainment.

BG’s wife also kicked off the ‘WeAreBG’ campaign on Griner’s birthday in October in association with the WNBA. The initiative aimed to remind Brittney Griner that she had not been forgotten. The social media campaign was heavily supported by various celebrities, sports icons, and fans.

Meanwhile, Griner’s recent appeal was denied by a Russian judiciary court, and her 9-year sentence still remains. The Biden Administration is trying to work out a prisoner swap with the Kremlin. Thus, Cherelle Griner’s recent request would have certainly been acknowledged by Curry and Irving, who wish for BG’s safe return.
