The Golden State Warriors are currently the 7th seed in the Western Conference. As the defending champions, the Bay have hovered around the .500 mark all season long. They arguably have only a few years of prime Stephen Curry left. Likewise, they seem to want to make the most of the power they have at hand. As the NBA’s trade deadline creeps in, the Warriors seemingly have a few players they may want to bring in. Notably, the four-time champions have their eyes locked on Philadelphia 76ers’ Matisse Thybulle.

Thybulle is arguably one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. He is often the star who steps up to guard the best offensive player. However, this season, the 25-year-old has barely touched the floor. He is averaging a career-low 12 minutes per game. His production has been limited due to his fit on the current Philadelphia roster. Likewise, if the chance to offload him arises, the franchise might entertain juicy offers.

As far as a good deal goes, the reigning NBA champions probably have the resources to make the trade possible.

Warriors in the hunt for Thybulle

According to Philadelphia Inquirer Keith Pompey, Matisse Thybulle is no longer an untouchable asset for Philadelphia. Two teams have shown keen interest in the defensive expert. Notably, the Warriors as well as the Sacramento Kings are after the year 3 guard. Thybulle proved his might as a defensive stopper when he held Stephen Curry to 2-13 as his primary defender. However, he hasn’t progressed offensively in the way the Sixers would like. Likewise, his trade value isn’t as high anymore.

Thybulle would arguably be a great fit with the Warriors. The defending champions have longed to have a capable defender among their ranks. As far as offense goes, talents such as Curry, Klay Thompson, and Jordan Poole have done their jobs. However, the Warriors lack a defensive presence which often allows the opposition to strike through. Despite the career-low averages, Thybulle has consistently kept his steals production up to 2 in three of his last four games. In addition, he has shown the ability to knock down threes, the bread and butter of the Bay’s offensive system.

A bench unit comprising Kuminga and Thybulle on the floor at the same time might spell hell for any opponent. In addition, the Warriors have younger assets such as Moses Moody or Donte DiVincenzo to package. The 25-year-old could fit perfectly beside some of the Warriors stars due to his limited involvement on offense. Thybulle’s inclusion could also prove to be valuable to make a deep postseason push.
