Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is one of the numerous what-ifs of the league. The now 41-year-old was a fan favorite and performed consistently until the 2006-07 season. What was a great season with the Wizards ended in heartbreak for Arenas after he was injured with just a handful of games remaining. The injury completely derailed the career of the 3-time NBA All-Star, who has recently come out with a bold claim. Arenas believes that, if not for his injury, he would have been better than Golden State Warriors superstar, Stephen Curry.
The former Washington Wizards star joined the I Am Athlete podcast recently and in the episode teaser that was dropped on Twitter, he made the wild Steph claim. Four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry did not have the most pleasant start to his NBA career. However, he picked up pace and has strongly established himself as one of the best players of his generation.

Recently, Gilbert Arenas claimed that Steph Curry had no chance against a 25-year-old Arenas. The 2003 Most Improved Player had a decent start to his career, however, things took a downturn during the 2006-07 season. The then 25-year-old suffered from a torn MCL and that may have cost him his career.

It seems Arenas firmly believes that he would be better than Curry if not for the injury. Arenas said, “I got hurt at 25. So if you stop me at 25, Steph ain’t f**kin with me! Coz you gotta stop ’em at 25, there are no three championships.”
Injuries and off-court issues completely derailed Arenas’ career. Following his retirement after the 2011-12 season, Arenas is best remembered for his ‘gun incident’ and his time with the Washington Wizards. Arenas was suspended by the team in 2009 following a heated locker room altercation that urged him to display a firearm. Gilbert Arenas’ wild take may sound gibberish to many fans until the statistics are taken into consideration.

Arenas was 25 years old during the 2006-07 season and he averaged 28.4 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.6 rebounds. Not bad for someone who tore his MCL during the same season.
On the other hand, Curry was 25 years old during the 2013-14 season and he averaged 24.0 points, 8.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds. Incidentally, this was his first All-Star selection. Although Arenas might have had better stats at the same age, Curry has won four NBA titles and will certainly be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.
