We know Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time. His talent belittled players who competed against him, as is evidently featured in his docu-series, The Last Dance. We’re also aware of the infamous rivalries between the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, and New York Knicks. Some consider them rumors and stories, but the documentary clearly validates these rivalries. Through the documentary, we come to understand that in the 1991-98 Bulls era, his persona intimidated even the best athletes.
Adding fuel to fire comes a new tale from the former Los Angeles Clippers player sharing his own take on MJ. Apparently, the tale is ‘pretty smoking’!

There are infinite stories about MJ that have never seen the light of day. Some of these stories keep revealing themselves through anecdotes we keep hearing daily. Like the back story behind the Shrug Game, we had an idea about the iconic celebration of Magic Johnson at the broadcaster’s table. But it wasn’t fully revealed until the Lakers legend gave a detailed rundown of what led to that celebration. Another iconic story about His Airness comes directly from a former Clippers player, who in his rookie season faced Jordan and lost in a double overtime game. For him that was his ‘Welcome to the League’ moment.
In a recent interview with former Charlotte Hornets Center, Ryan Hollins on “NBA Rookie Life with Ryan Hollins,” Maurice Taylor shares details of the incident. His first encounter with MJ is something he’s never going to forget. He says, “After the game, you know how strict they are with smoking in buildings in LA they don’t allow you to smoke in any type of building, we come out the locker room, and he has every camera around him, and it’s just hundreds of people to see him in the middle of a circle, and he’s smoking this huge cigar, indoor…. in the locker room.”
He further adds, “When he [MJ] opened the locker room door, the smoke was coming out of the Bulls locker room, and it’s Michael Jordan, they just let him walk through the sports arena with a huge cigar, with securities around, and I was like ‘man they’d let [him] do whatever.”
MJ loved playing against the Clippers
His Airness played 1072 regular season games in his career. Out of them, he faced Clippers 25 times. With a 23-2 record against them, he had the highest winning percentage against any team with a minimum of 25 games played.
