Spending His Weekend at Bars as Child, Charles Barkley Once Confessed to Stealing “Six Packs” in Hilarious Sequence

Charles Barkley has always maintained that his mother and his grandmother are the most important people in his life. Growing up with them in a difficult environment, he learned the importance of hard work. Moreover, Barkley never shies away from talking about his past. He understands that there are elements of inspiration in his story that might help someone. Sir Charles went down memory lane sometime back and talked about his humble beginnings and how he was once caught stealing a six-pack.

Over the years, his popularity has skyrocketed due to his unabashed takes and hilarious comments. However, this success and recognition is not something that came easily to him. We have all heard the stories of his upbringing. How a young kid from Leeds, Alabama, with little to no resources, made it to the top of the league.

Decades later, Chuck still lives by the same principles that he picked up from the two influential women in his house. Despite all the success and wealth that he has accumulated, Chuck remains humble as ever and often credits his upbringing for whatever he has achieved. A year ago, however, he was on The Pivot podcast where he talked about hilariously getting caught while he tried to steal some beer.

Chuck said that his grandma used to sell alcohol to make ends meet. Due to this, he would spend his time in bars, around his grandmother. One evening, when he was trying to take away a few cans of beer for himself and his friends, his grandma caught him. He didn’t do a good job at hiding it either, as he kept the “six-pack” in his pants.

After his grandma asked him where he was headed, Chuck said, “All you could hear is beers rolling down the pavement.” However, he didn’t get punished for it on the spot, as his grandma didn’t want to embarrass him in front of his friends. The 11x NBA All-Star also revealed that his grandma used to carry a firearm with her.

Chuck’s come-up story is a tale of resilience, and it is not just from him. In order to tackle their financial situation, his grandma started selling alcohol and, because they lived in a bad environment, she had to protect herself.

Chuck said that his grandma “had a gun in her lil underwear package,” to protect herself from fights. He also stated, “She was hilarious, now that I think about it.”
