The Los Angeles Lakers are currently going through a very crucial 5-game road trip in the first half of the 2022-2023 season before the All-Star break. The Lakers started off the trip with two consecutive defeats against the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets. Their first game of the road trip against their biggest nemesis Boston Celtics turned out to be a controversial one. While the Lakers lost the game by 125-121 in overtime, the final moments of regulation time had a controversial ending when LeBron James had a chance to lead the Lakers to a victory but some controversial officiating deprived the King of his flowers. Recently, NBA Insider Stephen A. Smith called out the ‘Bulls**t’ treatment that LeBron James received during the game against the Celtics.

With 4.1 seconds left on the clock, the Los Angeles Lakers made a play to inject the ball into LeBron’s hand. James took the ball and headed straight into the paint against the Celtics defense. Subsequently, his shot was intercepted and the ball fell into the hands of Jayson Tatum. After which, the final whistle rang as Boston tied with the Lakers at 105 each. LeBron called for a foul in the final moments of the game but the referees rejected his request, which later on turned out to be a very controversial decision. Popular NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith shared his perspective on the whole controversial scenario.

During a recent appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Stephen A. Smith gave his take on LeBron James‘ plea during the Celtics game while talking to host Kyle Forgeard. Stephen A. Smith stated, “His bulls**t! He definitely got fouled. There definitely should have been a foul called. The league has publicly acknowledged that the officials missed a call and we understand that.”

The ESPN analyst agreed that the Lakers were handed a bad call. He believed that they should have won their first game of the road trip. However, he reckoned that it was all part of the game. Meanwhile, one of the co-hosts asked, “But, how do they miss out with LeBron James?” Stephen A. Smith replied, “I just told you. I said they made a mistake. They messed up. No question about it and you would think that with him being the superstar he is, you’re going to get the benefit of the doubt.”

Smith added, “Usually works in reverse! What usually happens is that somebody like him gets a call he doesn’t deserve.” The NBA analyst suggested that the call went against the Lakers’ favor and he was not too impressed by the way the referees have been officiating this season.
