Donovan Mitchell is one of the new faces on the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ roster, having joined in October last year in a blockbuster trade before the new season began. He has brought attention back to the team, playing a significant role on-court. It was recently reported, however, that the 6’3″ guard had been interested in joining Bam Adebayo at the Miami Heat, back in 2022. The report also claimed that Mitchell apparently decided against joining the Heat because he was concerned about playing alongside a certain member from the Miami side.
Mitchell’s response to the news obliquely negating the report has caught the attention of NBA fans on Twitter, who brought up some questions regarding media coverage of players.

After five seasons with the Utah Jazz, 26-year-old baller Donovan Mitchell joined the Cleveland Cavaliers before the start of the 2022-23 season. The team has reached fresh heights since his arrival, being a few wins away from claiming a spot in the playoffs after failing to make it in the previous three seasons. The Cavaliers are currently the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference.
A recent report from a sports page on Twitter revealed that the Cavs star had also entertained an interest in joining the Miami Heat in 2022. The post read, “Donovan Mitchell wanted to play with Bam Adebayo but had some concerns playing with Jimmy Butler.” As the news garnered attention, many fans responded with mildly sarcastic remarks, lightly poking fun at the post and making jocular comments, indicating their lack of belief at the prospect of Mitchell throwing shade as reported.
Donovan Mitchell himself responded in a couple of hours’ time, confirming fans’ doubts by pointedly targeting the inaccuracy of media coverage that NBA stars such as himself receive. The 3x-All-Star took to his own Twitter to state, “We live in a world where you can just say anything and it just be true smh.”

For real! How is it that the media can just say whatever they want, regardless if it is true or not, just so they can get a click. Social media needs some boundaries. This is messing with the reputation of some people.

Though Donovan Mitchell and fans alike seem to have scoffed at the news, Mitchell and the Cavs are locking horns with Jimmy Butler and the rest of the Miami Heat as the Eastern Conference gives it their all. With playoffs nearing and favorite teams battling it out, passions are surely expected to rise – and perhaps inspire more than just cheering!
Jimmy Butler evens it out in consecutive games against the Cavaliers
The Heat faced a 104-100 defeat to the Cavs last week. Darius Garland’s 25 points along with Mitchell’s 18 helped Cleveland secure the win. However, the Miami side led by the 6’7″ Jimmy Butler evened it out in their next face-off with the Cavaliers.

Butler ended the second match with 33 points as Tyler Herro put up another 25 to seal their 119-115 win. The Heat are struggling to stay afloat this season as they swim at 7th place in the choppy waters of the East. Though they might make it to the playoffs, they would have to be especially determined in the postseason considering their volatile performance.
