Retired soccer legend Lauren Holiday battled a benign brain tumor after her retirement and eliminated cancer in 2017. Notably, the 35-year-old soccer legend bagged several titles in the international and domestic leagues. The 2x Olympic gold medalist was diagnosed with cancer when she was six months pregnant and had her tumor removed a month after her delivery. During the difficult period, her husband Jrue Holiday took some time off from the league to support his family.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame honored Lauren Holiday by adding her to the elite club on Saturday. After receiving the honor, Holiday delivered an emotional speech with tears pouring from her eyes. It has been about eight years since Lauren retired from competitive soccer games in July 2015. During her speech, she credited soccer for helping her get through tough times. She said, “At times, the weight of waitings were unbearable, but it was in these moments I realized soccer had prepared me for this.”

Following her emotional speech, Giannis shared the video on his Instagram story and wrote a heartfelt note. The note read, “You’re one of the toughest people I’ve ever met. Your kids get to see the example you and @jrue_holiday11 set for them everyday.”

Husband Jrue Holiday also took to his Instagram story and shared the video of Lauren’s speech and wrote, “I love you and im so proud of you!!”
Holiday’s bold call after the gut-wrenching news
When the doctors diagnosed Lauren with a brain tumor, Jrue Holiday represented the New Orleans Pelicans. However, he took an indefinite break from the game in order to support his family. He said, “I’m obviously blessed to play this game… But my wife is the most important thing in the world to me. She comes before anything else,” as reported by Nola.com. Three years after the gut-wrenching incident, Holiday lifted his maiden NBA title in 2021 with the Bucks.
