Shaquille O’Neal is a family man, and there are no two ways about it. The Los Angeles Lakers legend could never stop crediting his family for his achievements throughout his career. The Lakers no. 34 is also close to his siblings. His sister, Lateefah once mentioned how their brother went above and beyond to protect them. O’Neal once decided that he had enough of his siblings being hurt. Hence, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

The loving sister of the 7-foot Giant recently revealed how Shaq came to their rescue when some kids were beating them up. The protective steps that Shaq took made his siblings’ lives safer during their childhood.
Shaquille O’Neal protects his siblings
Prior to his NBA career, Shaquille O’Neal had a tough time at home. He was, in his own words, “the biggest 2-year-old” ever. His size was huge for his age. Therefore, he generally didn’t hang out with kids his age. Also that was one of the many reasons why he was so close to his family.

Recently in an exclusive documentary on HBO Max, Shaq’s sister Lateefah mentioned a violent incident that happened back in their childhood. The incident emphasized the protective love Shaq had for his family.
“We just all had this bond,” said Lateefah. She further went on to describe what happened. As it turns out, a girl hit their brother Jamal which prompted Lateefah to hit her back. However, she was soon blindsided by another girl who happened to be the other girl’s sister. As a result, Lateefah fell down on her back and Shaq had to intervene in the street fight.

“I just immediately went and hit her. Her sister came from the side and blindsided me so I just fell on my back. Shaquille grabbed the sister’s collar and he took Ayesha, our younger sister’s hand, and started hitting her upside the face,” Lateefa stated.

It is not clear when this incident happened but the Los Angeles Lakers legend was supposedly 7-foot tall when he was 14 years old. The incident would have warned other kids not to mess around with the siblings of Shaquille O’Neal. Obviously, young kids fight all the time, but O’Neal couldn’t see his siblings get hit at any age.

However, even while protecting his siblings, Shaq refrained from hitting a girl with his own hands. He took his sister Ayesha’s hands and used them instead.
