Any Kyrie Irving news that is not related to his play on-court might be getting a little repetitive. But not when there are other people who manage to keep the debate going. Like, getting some unlikely support from a fellow NBPA vice president Jaylen Brown. Things haven’t been looking in Irving’s favor for quite a while now. And anything that could’ve gone wrong for him, has seemingly gone wrong.?

Irving first chose to give up $100 million-plus by turning down a four-year contract extension in order to stick by his own choice to remain unvaccinated. And now, the latest controversy he is surrounded by has led to multiple brands and organizations cutting ties with the seven-time All-Star.?
There may be no coming back for Kyrie Irving
One of the main and biggest brands of them all was Nike, which ended a decade-long relationship with the Brooklyn Nets star. The company was set to release the ‘Kyrie 8’ sneakers, but since Irving’s off-court drama, the brand then decided to part ways with the controversial player, in a similar situation to how Adidas dropped Kanye West following his own recent controversy.
Multiple players in the NBA have signed with Nike but arguably only the best of them get their own signature shoe. And Irving was among those players. He was one of five players in the league who had a signature shoe deal with Nike.?
Nike co-founder and chairman Phil Knight recently made his first public comment on Kyrie Irving and his situation. He said, “Kyrie stepped over the line. It?s kind of that simple. He made some statements that we just can?t abide by and that?s why we ended the relationship. And I was fine with that.”

Boston Celtics forward and NBPA fellow vice-president Jaylen Brown ended up slamming the billion-dollar company online after Knight’s remarks on Irving came out. Brown tweeted, “Since when did Nike care about ethics?”?

Also, Nike was once accused of promoting a video prior to the FIFA World Cup in 2014. The video apparently had antisemitic overtones for which Nike never officially apologized. The Zionist Organization of America wrote to the apparel company but was reportedly not satisfied with their response.?
Kyrie Irving earned an estimated $11 million annually from his endorsement deal with Nike. But now, it does not look as if the company is interested in signing with the Brooklyn Nets star again in the future.?
