Ever since Ja Morant stirred up his second firearm controversy of the year, word spread that he is likely to face severe consequences in the future. On Friday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has let out the much-awaited verdict on the Memphis Grizzlies star. The NBA has suspended Morant for 25 games in the 2023-24 season. While the suspension has become a hot topic for the world around, Ja Morant himself has responded to NBA’s tough decision. The 23-year-old was quick to issue a statement in response to the verdict.

Ja Morant accepted the league’s decision in his statement. Soon, his sister Niya Morant broke the silence on the All-Star guard’s latest gesture. Speaking up for his brother, Niya seems to have responded to the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and a large bunch that scrutinized her brother when he landed in trouble.

The NBA has arguably kept most of the basketball enthusiasts on the edge of their seats awaiting the league’s decision on Morant’s future. Perhaps Adam Silver must have decided not to divert attention during the sensational NBA Finals. As the Finals frenzy started to subside, Silver spilled the beans.

However, fans seem not to be satisfied by the league’s decision. For many, the suspension is not as lengthy as they thought. Many even opined that the NBA verdict is quite underwhelming.

Morant, however, has accepted NBA’s decision. After the league issued the suspension, Morant issued a statement in which he said, “I’ve had time to reflect, and I realize how much hurt I’ve caused. I want to apologize to the NBA, the Grizzlies, my teammates and the city of Memphis. To Adam Silver, Zach Kleiman and Robert Pera – who gave me the opportunity to be a professional athlete and have supported me, I’m sorry for the harm I’ve done.”

Morant’s sister, Niya, has shared The Shade Room’s post on her Instagram story. “The fact of the matter is that we do fail. We all make mistakes. We’re human! We are all human. We all fall short. But God’s grace is sufficient. Nobodys prefect!!! I got your back no matter what and I always will. Comeback gone be something serious! I stamp it,” Niya wrote on her story.

Niya finally broke her silence on Ja Morant a month after veterans like Shaquille O’Neal called Morant out.

While Niya Morant believes that Ja Morant made a mistake and can come clean, Shaquille O’Neal thought that Morant’s recent act was a choice, not a mistake. He condemned the 23-year-old for sparking up back-to-back controversies and hinted that Morant must think about his family before his acts. Shaq also opined that he would have thought of his mother and refrained himself from conducting himself like Morant. Besides, O’Neal added that the Grizzlies star has a bigger responsibility to his daughter and family.

Now, Niya Morant has loudly proclaimed that family is Ja Morant’s biggest support system, for they view Morant’s act as a ‘mistake’, unlike Shaquille O’Neal. Just like others that have Morant’s back, Niya hopes that her brother will bounce back stronger after the suspension.
