NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was one of the most dominant players ever, thanks to his physical prowess. However, the Los Angeles Lakers struggled with fitness as the huge demands of NBA seasons took their toll on him. Furthermore, he was not very conscious of his food intake and it led to weight gain. This led to multiple injuries which made him gain even more weight because of the lack of games and practice sessions. It was a vicious cycle most big men in the NBA suffer from and he eventually retired. After his retirement, it worsened.

The Big Diesel gained more weight after his retirement because of his sedentary lifestyle and not making any changes to his food intake according to his lifestyle. His health deteriorated massively, and he was presented with a staunch reality.

Shaquille O’Neal challenges himself

Last year, Shaquille O’Neal had his blood work done, and the doctor informed him about his weight gain and poor health. The doctor even warned Shaq that he won’t be around for long if he continued this lifestyle. So O’Neal made some major changes to his lifestyle. He started eating clean and started working out as well. Following this over a year, he has gone from weighing around 400 lbs to 360 lbs now. His transformation at 50 shocked the fans.

This has given the four-time champion huge confidence, and he now has another target on his mind for the new year. During an interview with ET, O’Neal revealed he is looking to reduce another 20 lbs in the new year. “I lost 40 pounds,” O’Neal said. “I need to lose about 20 more, but impressive. Imma get real chiseled up and do an underwear ad with my sons.”

The Superman promised he would be fit enough to be in an underwear commercial with his sons. A 7’1″ chiseled Shaq would be a sight to behold for the fans.

O’Neal vs. Spice Adams

Shaquille O’Neal made huge fitness strides in 2022 as he lost 40 pounds and got healthier. The former MVP even had a bet with his The Big Podcast with Shaq co-host Spice Adams. The bet was to see after several months who can lose more weight and look better and be healthier.

When it was the day to judge their progress, both O’Neal and Adams took their shirts off during the podcast. Most fans commented that Shaq looked better and healthier than the NFL veteran. Adams admitted that he has to push more. Now, Shaq has again challenged himself with the task of losing another 20 pounds. It will be interesting to see him achieve it.
