In the past few weeks, the tennis world saw two of their biggest legends retiring from the game. They are none other than Serena Williams and Roger Federer. Millions around the world have given their congratulations and support to the two great champions on their new chapters in life. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal also chimed in on the conversation.
On the latest episode of his podcast, the four-time NBA champion revealed what he felt about Serena’s retirement. According to him, she is not the same player she was before.

Shaq said, “She’s done. Let me clarify that. Done means, you don’t have it like you used to have it and that’s because of father time. In her prime, nobody can beat her and she’s gone longer than most people.”
“She’s not the same Serena, she still can compete but you know, sometimes you just can’t do it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shaq explained that he’s not saying that Serena Williams cannot dominate the court anymore. However, like every athlete, she had a prime and she has now passed it. Therefore, the Big Diesel thinks that Serena made the right decision to retire. Because she’s already the greatest ever, and she has nothing left to prove to anybody.
Shaquille O’Neal once was part of a controversy with Serena’s sister Venus Williams
The Williams sisters are widely considered one of the best sibling duos in sports history. Serena and Venus Williams have accomplished a lot in tennis individually which solidifies their status as legends.
Interestingly enough, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was once caught in a controversy with Venus Williams. On a radio program, Shaq joked about sleeping with Venus.
Shaq’s words weren’t taken well by Venus Williams who called him out. She also made it clear that she has never been intimate with the NBA superstar.

This urged the former NBA champion to apologize for his words publicly. He also talked about how he meant his statement as a joke.
