After continuous engagement between Russia and the U.S., Brittney Griner was released on Thursday after ten months in prison. She was taken to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. The WNBA star was then taken to an army hospital for a thorough evaluation. U.S. Diplomat Roger Carstens has now given a positive update about the physical condition of Griner. Carstens is the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs who traveled with Griner back to the country.

There were huge concerns about the safety and well-being of the Phoenix Mercury star in the IK-2 penal colony in Mordovia. Carstens’ positive update on Griner’s physical condition would be a huge relief for her friends and family and fans.

Brittney Griner’s physical condition

During an interview with CNN, Roger Carstens answered a variety of questions about Brittney Griner. ?I mean, she was full of energy,? Carstens added. ?Looked fantastic. She?s in Fort Sam Houston right now undergoing some medical evaluations, but she seems to be just fine.?

Carstens also talked about Griner’s plane journey back to the country. The Diplomat revealed he gave her some space so that she could decompress, however, Griner was keen to talk.

Carstens said she talked for 12 hours during the 18-hour journey back to the country. The 2014 WNBA champion reportedly landed in the country on Friday morning.

The Special Envoy also talked about former Marine Paul Whelan who has been detained in Russia since 2018. He admitted there is still work to do and added he was already thinking about ways to bring back Whelan while welcoming Griner back.

Brittney Griner picked up a basketball

There was another huge update about Brittney Griner’s physical condition recently. Her agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas revealed the center picked up a basketball for the first time after her detainment in February. Colas disclosed her first move on the basketball court was a dunk. He stated it is up to Griner to decide whether she wants to play or not.

He added that Griner can decide without pressure after some rest during the holidays. She missed the whole of the last WNBA season because of her imprisonment in Russia. Fans would be hoping to see her back on the court, dominating.

The agent then said Griner wants to help Paul Whelan and other wrongfully detained Americans. Whelan was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2020.
