Brittney Griner has been at the center of all the attraction ever since her controversial arrest earlier this year. Alongwith the constant attention and pressure, her family and the basketball star have been flooded with only bad news for quite some time.
However, there might be some respite for the Phoenix Mercury star. According to a report, she will be spared some of the harshest living conditions due to her gender. Thanks to the existing system of segregating inmates, a lawyer believes Griner will almost certainly be spared the trauma of the strict regimes.

Brittney Griner receives a ray of hope after months
Life hasn’t been easy for Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner. Following her controversial arrest earlier this year, it has all gone downhill for her. Griner has been sentenced to nine years in prison for smuggling illegal drugs in her luggage. Officials had detained her when they found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in an airport.
Currently, she is undergoing the process of being transferred to a Russian penal colony. However, this hasn’t been easy for the 7 times All-Star as well.
Despite all the hardships she is facing, there is a ray of hope for Brittney Griner. According to a lawyer, she will most certainly be spared from the trauma of the strict regimes in prison.

The lawyer said, “Colonies are divided into two types-strict-and general-regime colonies, and where they send you depends on the severity of the crime. But women are kept only in general-regime colonies.”
Communication with the outside world will be minimal for Griner. Considering there will be no regular interpreters, sending letters or communicating on the phone will be tough as censors need to go through these communications first.
Griner and her camp went through a tough 30 days
BG’s latest appeal was rejected by the Russian judiciary on the 25th of October. This meant that she will effectively serve nine years in prison unless the officials can negotiate a prisoner swap deal.
With tough and slow negotiations, Griner’s family has faced nothing but disappointment. Moreover, according to the same lawyer, Griner’s process of being transferred to the penal colony will take longer than usual. “But since she is a foreigner, it may take longer”, said Vagan Kasyan, a lawyer and advocate.

Brittney Griner and are family are losing all hope. A prisoner swap deal can save her from this harsh situation in case the two countries come to terms. Notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout will be sent to Russia in exchange for Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan.
