Shaquille O’Neal, the Hall of Famer, has shared a lot of his life stories off the court. Be it his childhood, his foolish spending, or his relationship with other athletes, it is always worth a listen. Shaq loves sharing his childhood stories, too.

Growing up, Shaq never actually spent time with his biological father. His mother, Lucille O’Neal raised him with Philip A. Harrison, Shaq’s stepfather. O’Neal is also known to be an obedient son who always listens to his mother, as he describes her as his best friend. Recently, Shaq shared yet another one of his childhood experiences.

Lusia Harris reminds Shaquille O’Neal of his mother

In this year’s Oscars, Shaquille O’Neal and Stephen Curry won an academy award for their documentary ‘The Queen of Basketball’. Shaq and Steph were the producers of this documentary, which was awarded the best short documentary. The big man had nothing but praise for the Harris family.

Shaq wasn’t there to give a speech but was recently asked to give an Oscar appreciation speech on The Big podcast.

“I don’t have a speech, because the Oscar was not about me. It’s about the Harris family,” said Shaq.

O’Neal describes how Lusia Harris, to whom the documentary was dedicated, reminds Shaq of his mother.

“…and when I look at her, she reminds me of the great doctor Lucille O’Neal.” Shaq says. He talks about his childhood when he was born and also about his mother’s struggles.

“She had a lot going on. And then when she had me out of wedlock, being changed she met a gentleman who’s drill sergeant. They had it mortgage and moved on, and my mother did everything for me.”

Shaq has a lot of respect and love for his mother. He always wanted to buy his mother whatever she wanted. And so he did. O’Neal also talks about how his mother would wear the same shoes and bottoms most of the week, which also drove Shaq to work hard and make a name for himself in the game. The sacrifices made by Lucille O’Neal have definitely paid off, to say the least.
