Shaquille O’Neal recently joined serial entrepreneur GaryVee for an exclusive Q&A session. He helped young business minds during the session by answering their questions. He also gave some crucial advice about life and business ventures.

Shaq’s daughter changed his mindset

During the session, a person in the audience asked Shaq for advice on how to become a better man and maintain a balance between family & business while simultaneously achieving at the highest level. Shaq reckoned that he had always had a switch. He suggested that every hustler has a switch in them and one needs to turn it off when they go back home to their wife and kids.

Moreover, the Lakers legend suggested that having children helped him to keep his work away from home. Shaq added, “Once I started having the kids and my first child was a daughter. And she don’t care about any of that. I’d come home and see her smile. It will make me turn it off.”

Shaq shared that keeping work away from home and getting involved with family helped him recharge and get back to work with a better mindset. He was able to focus on family. In fact, his eldest daughter, Taahirah helped him not think about work for a bit.

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the rare athletes who made a fortune after the end of their NBA career. While most athletes go broke in a few years after retirement, Shaq has amassed a staggering $400 million fortune, which he could pass on to his eldest daughter Taahirah.

Back in 2018, Shaq came on the Ellen Show and revealed a major rule at his home for his kids. O’Neal said, “My most famous rule is, in order to touch any of my cheese, you have to present me two degrees.”

The Big Diesel referred to money as cheese. He reckoned that his kids would get a piece of his money only when they get two degrees.

Fortunately, Taairah has followed her dad’s advice quite seriously. After completing high school in 2014, the 26-year-old earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2019. She also worked at PepsiCo as a brand communication and social media analyst. Thus, Taairah could end up getting Shaquille O’Neal’s $400 million fortune in the future, or at least a huge chunk of it.
