Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, one of the founders of the Pussy Riot group sat down with CNN to speak about the Griner situation. It’s safe to say her admission wasn’t something Griner’s supporters would want to hear. The former inmate said things could go as far as the WNBA star even seeing deaths. Moreover, she feels the norms of the prison will leave the 32-year-old helpless.

Tolokonnikova said: “I think it’s going to be specifically difficult for Brittney because she doesn’t know the Russian language and she can not learn about the law that she has to obey in a penal colony. And she can not protect herself.”

Her words point to scary times for Brittney Griner. Moreover, it confirms the horrid treatment in the colonies. In fact, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova even stood against her treatment and went on a hunger strike during her time in the facility.
