Shaq appreciated the young talent but at the same time gave him a reality check with his remarks.
Wembanyama has recently received a lot of coverage in the media. All of the major NBA franchises and media organizations are focused on him. Not simply because of his gigantic physique but also because of his all-around performance on the court. The 18-year-old is expected to be the first overall pick in the NBA Draft next season. It’s unfair to talk about a 7-foot giant and first-round draft choice and not bring up Shaquille O’Neal.

Before Shaq was selected as the first overall pick by the Orlando Magic in 1992, there was a lot of buzz around him as ell. And this is the same scenario for Victor.
Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t see Victor Wembanyama as the future Shaq
When the world sees a young player build a name for himself in the game, the comparison debate begins. Victor’s name is compared with Shaq’s, on which Shaq gave a harsh reality check. He said, “He?s not the future Shaq.” And further said, “but he can definitely be the first Victor.?
Unnecessary comparisons with big names can hinder a player’s progress due to added pressure. Therefore, Shaq stressed the importance of creating one’s own name and identity instead of irrelevant comparisons. Shaq further added, “He?s a great player and he should want to make a name for himself, he should not want to be like anyone else.”?
Shaquille O’Neal witnessed Victor play in a preseason game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks and was impressed with his performance. In terms of statistics, he has a strong defensive game, averaging one steal, 3.8 blocks, and 9.4 rebounds per 36 minutes.
