When the season started back in the ’90s with 11-0, Shaq sustained an injury that kept him out for 21 games. During his absence, the Lakers got a new player on board, Kobe, who helped the team go 14-7.

During that game, one incident stood out particularly, when in the middle of the game when the Lakers gather for the ritual, holding hands and chanting “Lakers.” Van Exel instead, of saying “Lakers” mentioned “Cancun.” A number of teammates were upset by that word, and Van Exel explained himself by saying that: “Everyone who was in that locker room with me knows I’d never give up on the team. But finger-pointing happens.”
