Shaquille O’Neal knows talent when he sees it. He saw the talent in Kobe Bryant that made him work the ‘Mamba’ and bring 3 titles to LA. Furthermore, he even recognized Dwyane Wade’s potential and won a title alongside the ‘Flash’ in Miami.

As a four-time NBA champion, the ‘Big Aristotle’ has seen several players come and go throughout his 19 year NBA career. And this number has only increased ever since he became an NBA analyst. His analysis is often accurate and is highly valued by the NBA community. However, and more recently, he did make an incorrect claim on Chris Paul, and immediately regretted it.

Shaquille O’Neal’s Claim on Chris Paul

The Phoenix Suns have been on a tear this season. They currently hold first place in the Western Conference standings and strengthened this position after a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The win would feature a dominant performance from star point guard, Chris Paul, who scored 17 points and dished out 14 assists. In light of this performance, Shaq made a statement on the guard, but immediately regretted it.

“We usually call Chris Paul one of the greatest point guards, but I’mma go on and give him the title now,” said Shaq.

Upon hearing this, the rest of crew questioned Shaq on his decision, the latter corrected his statement to ‘greatest little point guard.’ But this was not the end for Shaq as he was further questioned on whether Chris Paul was better than Isiah Thomas. This is when Shaq immediately regretted his previous claim.

“Isiah was a point guard or a two? Strike that from the tape!” exclaimed Shaq in regret.

Clearly, Shaq figured out his mistake and hilariously asked for his statement to be retracted.

Can CP3 Prove Shaquille O’Neal Right?

Regardless of Shaq’s mistake, one can agree that Chris Paul has been on an absolute tear this season. The NBA veteran took his team to the NBA finals in 2021 and is still delivering match-winning performances that can allow the Suns to vie for the title once again.

Although CP3 and Isiah Thomas’ numbers are staggeringly close, the latter has something that CP3 doesn’t – two NBA championships. But Chris Paul still has a fighting chance. He can still overcome Isiah in the years to come as long as he continues to play a high level of basketball. This will ensure wins for the Suns along with the potential for a title. There is still a solid chance that he can prove Shaq right and become the ‘greatest little point guard.’
