Shaquille O’Neal Put Phil Jackson on Blast After Michael Jordan’s Mentor Fined Him for Absurd Reason

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the greatest to ever do it on the court. But off the court, especially in his personal life, Shaq himself said he has a lot of regrets. But once when he stood by his family, he was fined by Phil Jackson, the former coach of Michael Jordan and Shaq, let Phil have it.

Phil is considered by many as the greatest head coach in NBA history. He holds the NBA record for the most NBA titles as a head coach. He won six with Michael Jordan and the Bulls while winning 5 with the Los Angeles Lakers.

His first three with the Lakers were with Shaq and Kobe Bryant. Phil introduced the Triangle offense, which led to the Lakers being the most dominant team seen since Jordan’s Bulls. Jackson had a great relationship with Shaq and spoke highly of the Big Man.

Shaq is well known as a family man and he is a proud father to six children. So when he was called out for missing practice due to a family reason, he wasn’t very pleased.

In 2001, Shaq and his now ex-wife Shaunie welcomed their second child, Amirah, to their family. And Shaq missed practice with the Lakers due to this. But Phil did not like that and he fined Shaq for missing practice. When Shaq was asked what he thought about the fine. Shaq said, “That fine?… That —– knows what he can do with that fine.”

Many expected this incident to cause a huge problem with the player and coach. But Jackson said that this was not an issue. He said, “You know, there never was anything, Between the two of us, there’s been communication. Obviously, Shaq went through a long week, with a birth, and his coach fining him, flying in late hours and his hard work.”

Despite this incident, Phil and Shaq would go on to win two more titles together. They both would eventually leave the Lakers in 2004 after the loss to the Pistons in the Finals. Phil returned to the Lakers and would go on to win two more titles.

Shaq would win another title before retiring. And things were fine between the two after the incident. But everyone learned that he is very serious when it comes to his family and he won’t spare anyone, even the mentor of the great Michael Jordan.
