NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has a mindboggling car collection with over 30 luxury cars. Unsurprisingly, most cars don’t fit the 7′ giant. Leading to him customizing almost every car he owns. However, his most priced possession is Al Pacino’s 1963 Cadillac Eldorado from his film, Scarface. Apparently, the 1983 Brian De Palma film is Shaq’s favorite. ‘The Big Aristotle’ could afford all these luxuries and more thanks to his success on the basketball court and also off it. Many people have played vital roles in his tremendous success.

His father, Phillip A. Harrison, played a huge role in his development and success. The Big Diesel has always been open about his father’s parenting ways that helped him become successful.

Shaquille O’Neal bought his father a Mercedes

In the four-part ‘SHAQ’ documentary by HBO, Shaquille O’Neal talked extensively about his relationship with his father. He added some more information during a recent zoom interview where he revealed an interesting interaction. The time when he gifted his father a cart. After his first big payday, Shaq decided to gift his father a car. However, the sergeant did not show any emotions to the gesture.

“When I first got some money I bought him a Mercedes,” said Shaq. “He’s like OK, thank you, see you later. No smile. He never did any of that.”

His late father was known for his strict parenting style. Even though Shaq was not his biological son, he raised him like one of his own. Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t consider Harrison his step-father either, referring to him as his father.

During the interview, the Los Angeles Lakers legend stated his father’s ways won’t be acceptable in today’s age and he wouldn’t raise his children like that. However, he admitted his father’s methods helped him become successful.

O’Neal said, “I got corporally punished. I won’t do that with my children. But it worked for me. He had to let me know, ‘Hey, I know you’re 6’9″ but this is still my house and you’re still going to follow these rules or else. I’m glad he did.”

During high school, Shaquille O’Neal had already become a superstar. Shaq sometimes had some fun and was flashy during games. During a game, he tried to finger-roll the ball into the basket and missed miserably.

This did not sit well with his father who stopped the game and questioned him about it. Shaq replied he was practicing his “Dr.J” finish. Harrison slapped Shaq in front of everyone present. He then asked Big Diesel to be himself and dunk the ball every time.
