“Shaq Uncut: My Story,” the memoir of NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, came out in 2011. In this, Shaq talked about some of his experiences on and off the court. Additionally, he has mentioned some of his relationships in which he discussed his divorce from Shaunie Nelson.
The couple separated in 2009, while their divorce was finalized in 2011. In his book, he mentioned some of his situations regarding this. In addition, he mentioned what happened during this period.
Regarding this, he said, “At one time my ex-wife Shaunie and I were happy, but I admit it–I was a guy. I was a guy with too many options. Choosing to be with some of those women, well, that’s on me. In my mind, I never did it disrespectfully, but obviously, I shouldn’t have done it all.”

With their four children Shareef, Amirah, Shaqir, and Me’arah, the couple had a wonderful life. Following the breakdown of their marriage, they decided they would be friends because of their children. Providing a healthy environment for them.

However, their breakup was not as smooth as their relationship. It ended in a number of messy ways. There is even a report that Shaq’s attorney sent a letter to VH1 stating that Shaunie would not be allowed to discuss anything related to their breakup on the show “Basketball Wives“.

According to the book, he has accepted his faults and mistakes that caused his eight-year marriage to fail. In the memoir, he writes: “You know as well as I do relationships are about maintaining… It wasn’t the big stuff, it was the small stuff, and that’s my fault. I had things to do. I was trying to win, trying to make some money. I admit I wasn’t the best partner. I just didn’t know-how. I’m learning now.”
Regarding their current situation, they are great parents to their children. They have a good relationship with each other. Over time, they have moved on with their own lives.
