Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most prominent faces in the NBA. Moreover, the 4 time NBA champion and 15-time All-Star have various other interests other than the sport. He is a full-time DJ and a successful businessperson. Apart from this, he has always had an interest in a career as a cop.

In the 5th episode of the second season of Life of Shaq, a popular series revolving around him, Shaquille O’Neal talks about the cops and the law. When asked about the cops, Shaq talks about the respect he has for the people in uniform.

 Ken, Shaq’s cousin, adds, ” We been around police since we were kids. My uncle’s a cop. They tell us what to do, what not to do. They know how to deal with every situation that we get involved in.”

Shaq also mentions the reason he respects the cops so much. It is not because he is a cop himself; the reason is his upbringing. ” We come up in a super disciplinarian family. People always give me flak, oh you just like it because you were a cop. I said no, I just always show respect.”

Shaq as a cop:

Shaq became an honorary police officer in 2005. Shaquille O’Neal trained in the Los Angeles County’s Reserve Academy so that he could work with the Los Angeles Port Police. He was finally named as a US Deputy Marshall and he was eligible to work as a reserve officer.

Shaq’s role was primarily to serve as a leader for the community, and it was completely voluntary. Shaq is not one to sit around idle after hanging up his shoes. His willingness to take up such a job talks about his character. Shaquille O’Neal is someone who will go beyond what people expect and do something for the benefit of others.
