NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal regards himself as “the best”. He gets a lot of pride in calling himself by that moniker. Same with the ‘Superman’ name. If anyone crosses that boundary, then they arguably are in Shaq’s crosshairs. The big man is fiercely protective of his persona. And the monikers are all included in that package. Shaq once had beef with fellow big man Dwight Howard over the ‘Superman’ name. It turned out to be a battle between two enigmatic and talented centers.

Shaq was asked recently about this argument by the hosts of the ‘Drink Champs’ podcast. According to Shaq, there was nothing personal going on between them. He said,” It was fun for me because I felt like I was a rapper. I was in a battle. Dame’s a fine fellow. Great player and a great rapper but you know how we are with our egos. You can’t say you are the best when I’m around. You can’t say I’m Superman when I am around.”
Shaq clarified that they talk all the time and it was a pretty fun experience for him. The former player wished that real MCs were more like Dame Lillard and that there could be more fun back and forth.
