Shaquille O’Neal has received a lot of negative attention for his comments on the Kyrie Irving controversy. The Los Angeles Lakers legend called the Brooklyn Nets guard an “idiot” for sharing a link to a controversial movie on his social media account without realizing the repercussions. The Nets suspended Irving after the incident and there are still clouds of uncertainty about his return. Recently, the Big Diesel went off on Kevin Durant’s Nets, calling Irving’s suspension a “punk move”.

Kyrie Irving shared the link to an anti-semitic movie on his social media accounts a few weeks ago. He was heavily criticized for the move and his comments following the controversy led to a five-game suspension. However, the 2016 NBA champ has missed nine games till now. Additionally, the Nets have publicized the conditions Irving is required to fulfill in order to return to the team.

Shaquille O’Neal questions Kyrie Irving’s suspension

In the recent iteration of the Big Podcast,?Shaquille O’Neal shared his thoughts on the suspension of Kyrie Irving. The four-time NBA champ did not agree with Irving’s prolonged suspension and criticized the Nets management for making the demands of his return public.

During the podcast, Nischelle Turner pointed out that Shaq never called for Kyrie Irving’s suspension. The co-host asked O’Neal if the decision made by the Nets was warranted. The Lakers legend said, “No, it’s not warranted and it’s unprofessional by Joe Tsai and the organization to put the demands out to the public.”

The four-time NBA champ felt that Irving’s suspension was uncalled for. He reckoned that the Nets could have handled the matter internally instead of sharing the demands to the public. Moreover, Shaq suggested that what Kevin Durant‘s Nets did was called a “punk move” on the streets. He also justified his ‘idiot’ comments on Kyrie Irving and called out his critics for questioning his intentions.

What will Kyrie Irving have to do to return?

The Brooklyn Nets have reportedly put forward six demands that Kyrie Irving would have to fulfill to be reinstated. The NBA Insider Shams Charania took to Twitter recently to share the demands made by Kevin Durant’s team.

So, in order to return to the team, Irving will have to apologize/condemn the controversial movie in public. He will have to donate $500K to anti-hate movements. The 30-year-old will also have to take a couple of educational sessions including sensitivity training and antisemitism awareness training. Furthermore, the Nets guard would have to meet with ADL and other Jewish leaders. Lastly, Irving would have to meet with the Nets team owner Joe Tsai and exhibit his understanding.
