Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring record. A record that many touted as unattainable or unbreakable was done by ‘The King.’ While many were happy for James to surpass Abdul-Jabbar on the list, not everyone felt that way. In particular, another Los Angeles Lakers legend, Shaquille O’Neal, who displayed some professional jealousy toward him.

Whether LeBron James wins more titles in the NBA or not, he has cemented his name in the history books. And from now on, James will certainly be considered one of the best and most lethal scorers ever to play the game.

Shaq got real with his emotions

NFL legend Shannon Sharpe took this to another level while talking with Skip Bayless. Shannon Sharpe highlighted Shaq’s comments on the show, ‘Undisputed.’ While talking about James breaking the scoring record, Shaq said, “It was a professional jealousy moment. If it was me, I would have been arrogant for 19 seconds.”

Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe may have taken Shaq’s professional jealousy to another level. The two touched on how Shaq let himself and his body go. Just after the first time, he three-peated with the Los Angeles Lakers in the early 2000s.

While the hosts talked about LeBron’s longevity in the league, all of a sudden Sharpe said, “You don’t think Shaq lays at night and thinks what could have been, what should have been? Yes, he’s accomplished a lot. Shaq is probably worth five, six hundred million dollars.”

“Shaq wants what LeBron when they talk about George when they talk about LeBron,” added Sharpe. That is when Skip Bayless concluded their discussion by saying, “He wanted to have the right to say, ‘I’m the greatest ever.’ And he never had the right because he didn’t last long enough.”

The longevity of LeBron James

Shaquille O’Neal played in the league for 19 seasons. However, after his time with the Miami Heat, Shaq started suffering from constant nagging injuries that kept him off the floor. And this eventually hampered his performance on the floor.

There is no doubt that when in his prime, Shaquille O’Neal was the most dominant center to ever play the game. But when coming down to comparing him with LeBron breaking the all-time scoring record, O’Neal fell a bit short.

If Shaq had taken care of his body and stayed in shape, he would’ve been able to be more productive in the latter half of his career as well. That is where LeBron had him beat as James has taken great care of his body throughout the 20 seasons in the league.
