Scottie Pippen Bashes Stephen Curry’s 2015–16 Warriors: “You Can’t Win 73 Games and Lose the Championship. You Can’t Be Considered the Greatest Team”

Scottie Pippen is on a spree of spewing controversial comments that nobody seems to understand the logic behind. Some have claimed that Pippen has been disregarding Michael Jordan to sell his new memoir, and also to exact revenge for the way he was portrayed in ‘The Last Dance’. However, it’s only getting backfired as people hardly believe all that he is saying.

But then why would he go out on a limb to undermine the 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors’ stellar 73-9 record? Probably because they broke the 72-10 record the Chicago Bulls had set back in 1995-96? As per Scottie, he has the perfect justification for why the Dubs shouldn’t be labeled as the greatest team of all time, over the Bulls.

In an interview with GQ Sports, Pippen explained, “Well, the argument is greatest team in the regular season. It was the Chicago Bulls. Now, that’s a challenge for them now because they’re still playing. But you can’t win 73 games and lose. You can’t be considered the greatest team. You didn’t win a championship.”

He further justified why the Bulls deserve the crown for the best team and said, “It’s the team before you that did. They’re better than that team because they won a championship.”

Scottie Pippen sparks a long-gone debate

When ‘The Last Dance’ was released in 2020, it sprung a new debate amongst the one about the GOAT that’s been going on for decades. If the team that bagged two three-peats went up against the team with the best record in the league, who would win?

That’s right, a matchup between the Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors. And now, in his new book ‘Unguarded’, Pippen has expressed that the Bulls would easily defeat the Dubs in six games.

Unfortunately, this discussion, like many others in the NBA, is of no point. There is no way of finding out which of these two teams would triumph over the other. So much has changed since then and players are molded differently in different generations.

What one can do is, appreciate both without undermining the other’s legacy. If Pippen had done that, he probably wouldn’t have been getting so much heat from fans and critics, as he is now, for all the mud he is throwing, especially on his former teammate, Michael Jordan.
