The Golden State Warriors got off to a flying start against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson dominated the court with a series of three-pointers, chalking a massive lead as the first quarter progressed. However, a Stephen Curry bucket at one point seemed to stand out to fans, who flooded social media with comments targeting the move as the game continued. They claimed that Chef had gone against his own “family” on national television.

What seemingly angered many of the fans was the Dubs superstar’s move against none other than his own brother-in-law, Damion Lee. After a four-season career with the Dubs, Lee moved to the Suns in 2022 and, as on Monday, has faced Curry in several match-ups.

After a turnover in the first quarter of Monday night’s game, Stephen Curry found himself being defended by Damian Lee as he dribbled towards the 3-point line. Curry pushed Lee back with his shoulder and dropped a turnaround three. Following the bucket, the crowd burst into a huge cheer, perhaps adding salt to the indignant fans’ wounds.

Over the years, Curry has honed a reputation for his seamless three-point shooting. His turnaround three-pointers are a special delight, often leaving the audience with a look of disbelief on their faces. Fans have commented regularly about Curry’s accuracy as well the confidence with which he seems to showcase his ability. Perhaps fueled by a perception of greater responsibility, as such, a video clip of the ‘disrespectful’ bucket posted on Twitter has not gone down too well with fans.

Here are some more reactions from NBA Twitter:

As is evident from the reactions, many fans referred to Damian Lee being “family” to Curry. Whatever sentence the maneuver eventually receives, however, its conversion into another three points for the Warriors surely aided in their 1st-quarter lead.

Warriors wrap up first quarter with significant lead

At the end of the first quarter, The Splash Brothers scored more than the Suns combined as the Warriors finished 43-21. Klay Thompson dropped 18 points, which included three 3-pointers, while Curry pitched in with another 12. However, it’s too early to write off the game to the Suns’ defeat with star performers Devin Booker and Chris Paul giving it their all on the hardwood. The Suns could just as easily turn it around within the span of another quarter.
