Over 200 days ago, Brittney Griner took her annual trip to Russia. However, this time it was the unfolding of a nightmare. Detained in an airport near Moscow, the WNBA superstar has been involved in a fight to get back home. After receiving a sentence of nine years in a Russian prison, president Joe Biden has promised to devise a prisoner exchange to bring Griner back.

But backstage, has been the support of her own family. Notably, the entire WNBA has joined together to show support for one of their own. Her team, the Phoenix Mercury donned special warm-up “We are BG” warm-up shirts in her honor. In addition, the WNBA has hosted her initials on the home courts of all the teams. WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, has even stated how the league is working with the USA to bring the star back home.
