Controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner has the world divided in opinions on her issue. After being sentenced to 9 years in prison for being charged with carrying illegal substances, the Government is trying its best to bring her back.
While some support the Government’s actions, others feel she should serve her sentence. Interestingly enough, the two countries are negotiating a prisoner swap as we speak.

Officials from both camps have confirmed talks regarding the swap and it has led to some fiery negotiations. Recently, Russian officials called out the White House for its hypocrisy surrounding some issues.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made an odd comparison between the Brittney Griner issue and a raid on former President Donald Trump.
Zakharova asserted, “Let me remind you, Griner was smuggling cartridges of liquid for smoking, which contained hashish oil. The basketball player herself admitted this, since there was no point in denying it.“
She further elaborated, “At the same time, the White House refuses to comment on the investigation around Trump and the seizure of certain documents related to the White House from him.“
This comes after the Phoenix Mercury star’s team appealed her 9 year-long prison sentence in Russia. A few weeks ago, Griner admitted to carrying illegal substances in her luggage which caused her conviction.

Celebrities from both the basketball world and beyond have given their opinions on Brittney Griner. While stars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry support Griner, former POTUS Donald Trump is strictly against the Government bringing her back.
Trump went all out on Griner and also took shots at the Government for swapping a dangerous criminal for Griner. “And now we’re supposed to get her out – and she makes, you know, a lot of money, I guess – and we’re supposed to get her out for an absolute killer and one of the biggest arms dealers in the world,“ said Trump.
Moreover, he also called Griner a “potentially spoiled person” for her actions.
