Around the time of the 2021 Draft, the Washington Wizards decided to offload Westbrook to the Lakers in a huge trade. In exchange, the side received Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell and the No.22 pick. However, LA would receive Washington’s 2024 and 2028 second round picks. In 2020-21, Westbrook averaged a triple-double in the league. The 9-time All-star will add to Frank Vogel’s squad depth, and will occupy the floor along with star duo of James and Davis. With the trio’s experience and winning mentality, the yellow brigade are favorites for the title yet again. But what role is Westbrook going to play with the side in the upcoming season?

Westbrook to assume LeBron James’ duties, will push Anthony Davis
For the past couple of years, LeBron and Davis have been carrying the Lakers for the most part. With the inclusion of ‘Russ’, the duo has more freedom to express themselves. Along with this, they will also be receiving a fair dose of encouragement and extra push from the OKC legend. If Westbrook’s recent words are anything to go by, Davis in particular will be pushed that extra mile by his 32-year-old teammate.
In a recent statement, the 2016-17 MVP has made it clear that he intends to breach the limits of forward-center Anthony Davis. “My job,” stated Westbrook, “is to make sure I continue to push him [Davis] each day, each practice, each game, so he can be at the top of his game each and every night.” Together, the pairing is capable of dominating the Conference.
