The Los Angeles Lakers are finally starting to show some signs of progress after a dismal season. With fingers being pointed at Russell Westbrook for his poor performances, he too has shown improvement over the last few games.

In fact, he hit a game tying 3 pointer to force OT against the Raptors and also had a double-double with points and assists against the Cavs. He has clearly been more confident than usual off late.

“My son gave me this for my birthday. He drew this for me and had it made for me as a cashmere sweater. He must have got a lot of money. I don’t know where he got it from,” said Russ.

Thereafter, Russ spoke about the design itself. He mentioned that the two figures on the design were his son and him. Additionally, the design included the sun and clouds. Clearly, Russ is proud of his son’s creativity.

“He’s an artistic young kid. So I want to make sure he sees it and knows I got it on,” added Russ.

Russ this Season

Russell Westbrook has not enjoyed his run with the Lakers. When the franchise added him to the mix, it was expected that the former MVP would take a huge chunk of the load from LeBron’s shoulders. However, that has not been the case. With poor shooting and frequent turnovers, he has been in the limelight as a major reason for the Lakers’ poor season.

In the second half of the season, the Lakers got off to a bad start. They won just 2 games where they relied heavily on LeBron. But since then, things have looked better. After a poor show against the Timberwolves, the Lakers have won 2 of their last 3 games. Moreover, Russ’ shooting has improved as the Lakers appear to be playing with more energy on the court.

In the most recent win over the Cavs, Russ shot 50% from the field and had 11 assists too. Furthermore, he had just 1 turnover throughout the game. So maybe the fortunes of Westbrook and the Lakers are changing. Regardless, they will have to keep up the good work on a consistent basis and especially against the big teams like the Philadelphia 76ers who they will take on next.
