NBA legend Dennis Rodman grew up around some very hostile surroundings. His father left the entire family when Rodman was a child and his mother was left to fend for herself. Not much is known about Dennis Rodman’s biological father. He ran off with another woman and didn’t see his son and family for a long time. Interestingly, his location was once revealed and it seems Philander Rodman was living quite a good life.

He was reportedly living an entirely new life in the country of the Philippines. He was married to a local woman and had a few more kids and ran an old bar to sustain himself.

Rodman’s father lived a good life in the Philippines

Philander left a three or four years old Dennis Rodman and his two sisters suddenly one day. His reasons are still unknown but it seemed it all worked out for Philander in hindsight.

He was in and out of jail and had also left the US Airforce after being accused of stealing military equipment. Philander then settled in a dingy old town located in the Philippines where he was together with two local women according to Washington Post.

He was a father to 27 children which came from four wives and other flings. Interestingly, the former NBA champion’s father was very boastful about it. Despite his age, he was in no mood to stop. In fact, a 56-year-old Philander wanted more kids so that the number reaches 30!

Although Rodman hasn’t met his father for a long time, Philander was reaping all the fruits of his son’s fame. When the Chicago Bulls won the NBA championship, local reporters stormed Philander’s place to interview him.

Over the years, Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman has made peace with his biological father. During an interview, he talked about Philander in detail and also recalled the exact moment he just left.

Rodman said, “He just disappeared one day, haven’t seen him since.” Growing up in an all-women household, Rodman was neglected more often than not. This affected the youngster mentally but he had the perseverance to go through it all.
