The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t in the best place for the season. Injuries and other problems are damaging their season so far. Moreover, their expectations for Russell Westbrook have not been met – he has failed to fit in. Hence, it seems the purple and gold have been active in the trade market.

They are potentially looking to land a star like Ben Simmons or Jerami Grant.

At the start of the season, the Lakers were excused because it was a new team. Approaching the midway point of the season, things are still the same. They have failed to come up with the right set of players and that is apparent. Moreover, injuries haven’t been kind to them either. With some key players yet to play a game, the Lakers haven’t been able to execute their plans.

It seems they have waited long enough and are now hunting for a new piece through the trade market.

Lakers hungry for a new piece

Coming up with an underwhelming season so far, reports are suggesting that the LA team is active on the market. With Russell Westbrook being the player to base a trade around, the Lake show can hope to get a good return. However, which star should they pursue?

One star that will favor them is Ben Simmons. The defensive holes have been evident on the veteran Lakers roster. Their defense has been a major issue which has led to many losses. While they have picked things up recently, the addition of Simmons, who was a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year previously, would make a big difference.

Moreover, it will also add the necessary depth, and they won’t lose a playmaker either.

Another star to go for could be Jerami Grant from the Detroit Pistons. While defensive worries exist, shooting slumps are also a common sight. Around the right guys, Jerami Grant can serve as a reliable scorer. Currently, he is averaging 20 points along with a steal and block.

However, the main thing for the Lakers is they will have to give up Russell Westbrook. While there have been issues in fitting in, Russ has had to adapt to his role time and again. With the ‘Big 3’ barely playing much, Westbrook is the only star who has had to majorly adjust to his surroundings. In doing so, he is putting up impressive numbers going for 19.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists. Hence, giving up Russ without letting him settle in could turn regretful for the Lakers.
