Anthony Davis has been a force of nature for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. He has disrupted the offense and defense of his opponents. While averaging 27.6 points per game, he has vociferously given fans flavors of victory. Subsequently, he changed the team’s fortunes in the league. In short, the eight-time NBA All-Star has been unstoppable for most of the season. However, the only factor hampering his sublime performance is the dark cloud of injury. In the media, his name has grown to be synonymous with injuries, and millionaire sports agent Rich Paul had some stern points of view with regard to this topic.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Rich Paul spoke about the noise the media creates around players. He focused on the narrative around one-time NBA Champion Anthony Davis. He slammed the media for using Davis as a prop to increase viewership. Paul stated that the media writes off Davis’ injuries by stating that he is injury prone or he simply doesn’t want to play. He said, “Over the last couple of years, he’s had some really freak situations.” Paul continued to state that injuries are  part and parcel of being an athlete. While Paul stood for the Lakers’ star, this gave fans online another opportunity to troll.

The floodgates of trolls open on Twitter

Fans were quick to use Paul’s comments as a medium to call out Anthony Davis. They questioned Paul on his words by stating that Davis “rolls an ankle and is out a year”. Some also interpreted that Paul was calling Davis injury prone while just using fancy words to try and support the power forward. Fans pointed out specific words used by Paul like “freak situations” and asked him if “those ‘freak situations’ involve him Davis getting injured.” While one might claim that Paul’s action of standing up for Davis was heart-warming, this made no difference to fans.

The season so far for Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis has missed around 3 games for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. However, issues with his back have been a constant occurrence in the team’s injury report. Despite facing the little niggle in his back, Davis has commanded his way on the court. He has been shooting 59.6% from the floor while bagging an average of 27.7 points and 2.7 assists per game.

Despite such good times coming Davis’ way, he is listed as “probable” for Tuesday’s game against the Boston Celtics. It is going to be interesting to watch if Davis can battle the lower back niggle and make it to the court on Tuesday.
