REPORTS: Lakers Single In on Frank Vogel’s Replacement, Who Recently Made LeBron James ‘GOAT’ Claim

Ever since LeBron James’ Lakers won the 2020 title, the franchise has never been able to repeat the success it enjoyed. Post that season, the Lakers were knocked out in the first round of the 2021 playoffs. This season, it looks like they may suffer a worse result as their playoff hopes hang by a thread.

One of the reasons behind the Lakers’ lack of success this season is coach Frank Vogel. After a dismal 31-41 record, Vogel may very well be on his way out of the job. However, the good news for fans is that the franchise has identified his replacement. This is none other than Quin Snyder.

The Lakers Single in on Quin Snyder

Reports have emerged stating that Utah Jazz’s current head coach, Quin Snyder, may be the man to replace Vogel. This was reported by NBA Insider Marc Stein.

“I’ve likewise heard Snyder’s name posed as a probable Los Angeles Lakers candidate should the Lakers and Frank Vogel part ways after what has been a nightmare season in Hollywood,” said Stein.

Although Snyder has never won a title like Vogel has, he has kept Utah Jazz consistently in contention for the NBA title. This is what the Lakers want to achieve. Under Snyder, the Jazz has been a powerhouse of the West for several years. Hiring Snyder could potentially give the Lakers that status too. This will ensure the team has a shot at the title on a regular basis. Moreover, the chances of actually winning the title will be higher due to the presence of LeBron James.

Since joining the Lakers in 2019, Vogel took over a team that contained two superstars, namely LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Coaching with big names on the squad is difficult, but Vogel was able to bring success to the team by winning the title in his first ever season. For LeBron, it was a dream come true as well by finally winning a title in LA and putting his name amongst the Laker greats.

However, the journey has not been so smooth sailing ever since. The 2020-21 Lakers looked strong on paper. Moreover, they fit in with Vogel’s style of being a defense first team. But an injury to AD and a loss in the first round of the playoffs came in unexpected fashion. This season has been the worst so far. The Lakers have been dismal on defense and solely rely on LeBron to carry the team. Moreover, Vogel has used multiple lineups due to players being injured. Additionally, there have been occasions where he has made Russell Westbrook sit out in the 4th quarter. All of these have led to his job being put under scrutiny.

As the season moves ahead, LeBron and Vogel will hope to win as much as possible. This will improve their standing in the West and ensure an easier journey into the postseason. Regardless, it is going to take a miracle for the Lakers to repeat their 2020 success.
