Ending what can be seen as a forgettable campaign for the men in yellow and purple, the Lakers finished with a 33-49 record. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to take them through to the play-in tournament, thus cutting their season short.

Following their elimination, doubts have been cast over the continuity of the likes of coach Frank Vogel, the experienced Russell Westbrook, 29-year-old Davis, and many more. Rest assured, Jeanie Buss and co. will have their work cut out in the off-season. But has the franchise taken the first step towards building their side for 2022-23?

REPORTS: Lakers to pursue Pacers duo in exchange for Russell Westbrook

Throughout the course of the year, 9-time All-Star Russell Westbrook struggled with his shooting. All in all, he averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists in his first stint alongside James. And although these seem like good numbers, LA had higher expectations from someone of Russ’ caliber.

Being the victim of multiple costly turnovers, the 33-year-old was in the bad books of fans frequently. Characteristically, the big question that remains is, will Westbrook be seen on the same team as LeBron James next year?

According to a fresh report, the answer to this question is no. As per the reliable Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Indiana Pacers are interested in signing Russ next year. Following a disheartening season, the franchise may wish to bring in an experience guard.

In exchange, they have offered two 29-year-olds in Buddy Hield and Malcolm Brogdon to the 2020 champions. If the move goes through, LeBron and AD will have a new guard duo to rely upon.
